Notably, it was renowned for its production of chemicals, dyes, and later, plastics, attracting a diverse workforce.

The 20th century saw Hackney Wick evolve with the changing times. The area suffered significant damage during World War II, leading to substantial post-war reconstruction and industrial decline.
